Page 10 WOW Ladies Event a Huge Success! Women on the Water kicked off 2014 with bang on Sunday, January 26th. With a theme of New Year – New WOW the dining room at the club was filled with the ladies of the club enjoying the afternoon and learning more about their club and each other. The past hostesses of WOW planned and chaired the combination event in place of the usual monthly luncheon and evening cocktail party. Lynne Reynolds facilitated, Harryette Cappadona coordinated food and beverage service, Shari Seaton designed Past Hostesses of WOW organized and sent the invitations, Maggie Loar handled the program, Jackie Chapman and the 26 January New Year - New Carole Langford were in charge of decorations and club arrangements, Gethyn WOW Event. Front Row - Maggie Loar, Lynne Reynolds The program featured five fascinating female members who shared their stories with the group. Lynne Reynolds led off by telling about the origin of WOW and spoke about the educational opportunities at the club. Faye Black told about her job as the Letter Log editor and also about raising her family in the club. She shared some club history and included her boating and racing experiences. June Scroggin represented the new member segment and explained how she embraced the club activities as a way of meeting people. Her enthusiasm for the club is contagious and refreshing. P/C Phyllis Seaton talked about her time as the first (and only to date) Commodore of the club. She also spoke about her extensive experience with racing and boating in general. The five speakers of the WOW Finally, Cathy Dewrell, wife of Commodore Bobby Dewrell, spoke about the theme Ladies Event - P/C Phyllis Seaton, for this year which is F.U.N. She shared some of her educational expertise and solicited June Scroggin, Cathy Dewrell, Faye Black and Lynne Reynolds support and volunteers especially in the areas of yachting and club traditions. We hope the ladies who attended the New Year – New WOW came away with a new appreciation for their role in the success of the Fort Walton Yacht Club and a better understanding of what WOW is all about. We look forward to seeing them again each month at our regular activities. WOW will return in February to the normal schedule of a luncheon on the first Thursday of the month and a cocktail party on the third Thursday. This year’s hostess will rotate among the past hostesses and volunteer members. - Maggie Loar WOW - Women on the Water - February Events The ladies of the Ft. Walton Yacht Club (members, spouses, friends) are ALL welcome to join in the fun for lunch on the first Thursday of each month at 11:30 AM, and for evening cocktails on the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM. Our motto: “Come when you can: leave when you must.” In February, our Luncheon is on Thursday, 6 February. We will be celebrating the coming of Valentine's Day, so come prepared to share your favorite Valentine story with us. Those who wish to do so, will be able to make a valentine to send to our Ladies in uniform in Afghanistan. On Thursday evening, 20 February, our cocktail group will get a head start in celebrating Mardi Gras, complete with colorful beads and other fun. Come and join the fun!!
