Membership Committee Happenings
T
he bulletin board showing the new member applications for the past month speaks
volumes for the improvement in memberships. We see Seasonal Members trans-
ferring to Regular members, Regular members and reinstatements are on the rise, the
new Young Adult category is off to a great start. We welcomed 11 Regular members, 1
Surviving Spouse, and 3 Young Adult members to our club at the July Board Meeting,
and only two resignations! We must keep trying different things to continue this trend.
FWYC, as a whole, is friendly and inviting. This has certainly been a huge contribution
to the fact that people are wanting to become members of our club or to come back after
being away from our club. Keep spreading the word!
In continuing the idea of expanding the value of membership for each member, the Mem-
bership Committee is exploring the idea of a Seasonal Waterfront Director beginning in
the summer of 2018. This position would further the excitement and momentum of the
ECSA Summer Sailing Lessons as well as extend to adults and youth the opportunity
to learn to sail. This position has been the missing link in promoting sailing and water
sports throughout the summer and offering families a reason to become members and to
re tain their memberships.
By having a person to check members out on boats, assist in rigging, coach, repair boats,
provide supervision, and teach sailing, we can reinvent the culture of youth and adult sail-
ing at FWYC that is being experienced by many yacht clubs and sailing clubs throughout
the country. This new Waterfront Director position will provide a much-needed avenue
and purpose for families to become members of FWYC.
A full proposal, with facts and figures, will be presented at the August Board meeting.
