Primark is committed to reducing the impact that it has on the environment, and as part of that commitment it has joined the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). Primark will use the SAC’s sustainability tool, the Higg Index, which measures environmental sustainability, to help drive continuous improvement across its supply chain.

The sustainable cotton programme is unique is because the cotton is ethically sources and is now in Primark’s supply chain and it also helps 50,000 lives. Due to the technology that helps yarn the cotton Primark now has a supply chain that is sustainably sourced. Following the expansion of its Sustainable Cotton Programme, which sees Primark working with CottonConnect and the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) to support over 11,000 female cotton farmers in India, as well as increasing consumer interest in Primark’s own sustainable and ethical practices, Primark has decided to become more vocal concerning its commitments to producing responsible fashion.
