Keeping students engaged in mathematics can be quite difficult, however we have found the introduction of WebQuests a huge success. A WebQuest allows students to explore a topic in a safe environment that is controlled by the teacher.

Where do ICT’s fit in to this?

Findings from a 2008 study conducted by ACER suggested that there was improved student engagement through the use of ICT’s in schools.

The aim for the 6H students is to get them interested and engaged in learning through the use of web-based programs and allow them to take charge of their learning. Condie & Munroe (2008) explain that the impact of ICT on motivation, engagement and independence in learning is greater and more

persuasive compared with the traditional instruction.

What Types of ICT will you use?

One way we are going to keep students interested and engaged in history is to use the Founders Storylines website. This site

shows children the history of Tasmania and allows them to explore and understand life of convicts from the 1800’s.
