26 CHARITY SPECIAL
Mission to Seafarers
Operating in 50 countries, in over 200 ports, the aim of the Mission is to care for
the shipping industry’s most important asset: its people.
Seafaring remains one of the world’s most dangerous occupations. At sea
crews are vulnerable to piracy, shipwreck collisions and injury and. Long periods
aboard ship with a multinational crew away from their friends and families for
long periods of time often leave
seafarers feeling isolated, alone and in despair.
Legacies provide a vital part of our funding, enabling the Missions chaplains
to support the seafaring community across the world, providing relief they so
desperately need, 365 days a year.

National Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)
Abuse ruins childhood, but it can be prevented. That’s why the NSPCC is here.
That’s what drives all its work, and that’s why – as long as there’s abuse – the
charity will fight for every childhood.
Working across the UK, the NSPCC helps children and families through local
services, and provides training and support to people who work with children.
Gifts given in memory are vital to the NSPCC and allow the charity to help
keep children safe from abuse. The NSPCC is really grateful to funeral directors
for helping their clients to support children across the UK. To help make
collections easier to coordinate special funeral collection envelopes are offered,
as well as online tribute pages for making donations and sharing memories and
photos.

Rethink Mental Illness
No matter how bad things are, we can help people severely
affected by mental illness to improve their lives.
We’re Rethink Mental Illness, the leading charity provider of
mental health services in England. We support tens of thousands
of people through our groups, services and advice and
information. And we train employees, employers and members
of the public on how best to support someone affected by
mental illness.
All of this work guides our campaigning for the rights of
people with mental illness and their carers. Working alongside
the people we support, we are saving lives.
