St Luke’s Hospice Argus Team
To raise awareness and funds for their patients, a team of St Luke’s Hospice cyclists will once again be tackling the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour in 2014. Last year St Luke’s entered 60 riders into the race and the team managed to raise over R200 000 in funds, and 2014 will be the fifth year that St Luke’s has entered a team into the race. St Luke’s is inviting keen cyclists who would like to ride and raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice, to enter, even if they are already entered as an individual into the race. Team members will receive a free entry into the race, a St Luke’s Hospice shirt to ride in, as well as an earlier start on the day. Each team member is requested to raise a minimum of R3 000 in funds for St Luke’s Hospice, by the end of March 2014. St Luke’s will, where possible, assist riders with their fundraising, by supplying them with an online fundraising facility, sponsorship forms, and letters of permission. The mission of St Luke’s Hospice is to provide palliative care for improved quality of life and to enable people to die with dignity. On any given day, St Luke’s has over 870 patients, and at least four family members per patient, in their care. If the patient has a medical aid, the cost of their care will be deducted from their fund, otherwise the service is provided at no cost to the patient or their family. This is why fundraising campaigns such as the Argus Cycle Tour, as well as the support of their donors and the community, is so vital to the continued success of the organisation.
