Any absolute disaster shoots?
Probably my first senior portrait experience. Made me realize I was a lot better, and a lot less awkward at taking photo of skateboarders.
LOL, yeah, location and studio portraits will do that to you! Do you ever use strobes for fill flash?
Worse thing was, it wasn't even in a studio, we were out in the middle of nowhere. I normally won't but sometimes I will bring my strobe out and try and get something decent but it never really works out. I just need more practice. Artificial lighting is something that I need to learn a lot more about for sure. But looking at traditional skate photos, like the ones you would find in Thrasher they look like a ton of fun to use and they produce a great photo.
Do you closely follow any
other longboard photographers
and their shooting?
Blake Smith and Jon Huey are some of
my favorite for sure. I always get stoked
to see their work. Damron also kills it
with Caliber. Blake Smith especially, I love
how all of his photos turn out and how
a lot of his photos are shot in an urban
environment. Architecture is
something that I have always
loved and to see someone
combine both of them into
ones photos just makes me
even more stoked to see his
photos. He combines the s
kater’s style with the
surrounding environment almost seamlessly.
Well your photographs look very good Josh, keep up the good work. Would you like to shout out to anyone?
Thanks man! I'm excited to see what the future hold for sure. Motion Boardshop and Omen for being the local homies and supporting me. My parents for driving me around everywhere and always supporting me. Sam Galus for always being a willing photo subject. And Full Bore for giving me the opportunity to do this interview!
Dude it's been our pleasure and you welcome at our sessions anytime!
Sam Galus Stailfish.
