It affords the chance for residents in
the community to experience great
works of arts by artists of the black
diaspora and seizes an opportunity for
economic development and inclusion
for the Overtown community during
Art Basel Miami.
In other areas of his district, the
commissioner is constantly
improving living conditions.
He provided a 2.7 million
dollar alleyway makeover
project that provided
his community with
thoroughfares for biking,
exercise, community
gatherings, and
improved lighting
conditions for
residents.
It was his very
own Underline
project. He
also made
landscaping
improvements along Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard that has
aided in beautifying Liberty City.
During his term in office, he has
worked to improve the parks.
Beginning with building new
gymnasiums on both Theodore
Gibson and Charles Hadley Park,
and adding synthetic turfs to
the soccer field in Little Haiti
Soccer Park and the football
field at Hadley.
Currently, in the Upper
Eastside, Legion Park is
undergoing a complete
rehabilitation
including the
construction
of a new
Community
Activities
Building. He
has also
secured
millions
of dollars
to build
an indoor
gymnasium
at Moore
Park.
