off of ‘em even in the lord’s
house. Facegram, Instabook,
YouTube... (The congregations
bursts into laughter) It’s
even thought that fast food
encourages gorging; now
how many of you stay on
your phone for hours on end?
Gorging pictures, videos and
articles?
(I look down at my watch)
I’m almost done saints... I’m
wrapping it up! Some of us
have woken up on occasion
after a long night feeling
unpleasant. We’ve heard
the saying, “Garbage in,
garbage out.” Now if you’re like me and are in
the business of trying to get back high school
fine, you haveta be mindful of what you eat.
And if you wanna maintain good mental and
spiritual health, it requires you to be mindful
of what you’re munching on mentally and the
company you keep. SOMETIMES YA GOTTA
PUSH AWAY FROM THA DAMN TABLE! (The
audience gasps) Inasmuch as we’re attracted to
gossip and drama, it’s equally as important to
deliberately seek nourishing
mental stimulation to ease
those cravings. Now turn
to your neighbor and say
neighbor (Neighbor) I love
drama! (Echoed) I love
ratchetness! (echoed) But I
need more than that (echoed)
to quench my mental
(echoed) emotional (echoed)
and spiritual thirst (echoed).
(Organist begins hitting all
the keys; deacons begin
standing; change in voice
inflection) Ya see... Junk food
is a temporary fix and eases
hunger for the short term.
When you leave church every
Sunday and the sermon given
by the good Reverend Doctor
is loss by Tuesday, that’s
junk food! When a politician
solicits your vote every four (4) years and never
comes through on their campaign promises,
that’s junk food! If you’re caught in the Albert
Einstein world of doing the same thing and
hanging around the same people expecting a
different result, (someone yells insanity) what
is that? The congregation in unison exclaims,
“Junk Food!” Your diet isn’t solely what you
eat. It’s what you watch, read and listen to. I
can’t stress enough to
be mindful of what
you ingest. The Shade
Room and Bossip
are cool but pick up
a novel; expand your
mind and imagination. Future
and Lil’ Baby are entertaining
but broaden your horizons
sonically by listening to jazz or
classical music. The intellect
of our society is what bears
fruit and that strengthens
the vanguard for what lies
ahead and lead nations. All
I’m telling you saints is you
need sustenance; and that
sustenance comes from what
you consume on all levels. I
know the lord god told Adam
& Even to not eat from the
Tree of Knowledge for they
would surely die, but now that
we have access to the entire
garden, it’s our duty to eat from it like it’s a
buffet! So bon appetit! (The organist concludes)
Pastor Eldrick Johnson: Amen! The doors to the
church are open. That was a powerful word
delivered by Brotha Edwards on this beautiful
Sunday morning. It was pleasure having
the brother present his sermon hear at the
Greater New Bethel Methodist Baptist Church
of Christ and hope that he can visit us again
to bless us with another good word! Ushers...
please pass around the collection plates for
tithes and offerings for the Building Fund
and robes for the Junior Boys Choir who’s
scheduled to sing before an audience in Lake
Alfred. Tabernacle! “We Are The Change!” I’m
Gone! (b)
