Michael Kors and now Beverley Hills Polo Club
(some of which involved in racial scandals) are
allowed to blossom and flourish, companies
like Phat Farm, Karl Kani, Cross Colours, and
Pelle Pelle have come and gone. Does anyone
still dawn Sean Jean? It’s still available at
Macy’s. Ramomar (https://www.ramomarny.
com), a brand as exclusive as Gucci, Fendi and
Louis Vuitton is worthy of our support. Locally,
Cuffed Design (http://www.cuffeddesign.com)
has the same expertise and mastery as the
aforementioned design houses and can provide
both the uniqueness and “drip” you’re looking
for. Even when you’re looking for casual wear
for a night on the town or to lounge, if I’m not
wearing an image I created, I’m rocking The
Cool Miami (https://m.yelp.com/biz/the-cool-
miami-miami). Boutiques like Cindy & Co.
provide multi-dimensional/innovative home
décor services and wardrobe coordination;
providing assistance for clients needing
recommendations for a special room, the entire
home, as well as wardrobe makeovers—creating
the right look for any occasion (http://www.
cindycompany.com/index.php); and fledgling
companies like the Aponte Collection are
looking to blossom and flourish. The point
is, there are options; we have options. We’re
the trendsetters and define what’s vogue; it’s
evident; look around. We can’t yell “Support
Black Business” every time there’s outrage over
an incident at a restaurant, boutique or other
establishment. Hell... I guess we could and
we do. You know the excuse, “We lack good
customer service skills and adequate supplies,
that’s why I don’t support.” But I know... it’s
hard. They’re so courteous and polite upon your
arrival; offer flutes of champagne as you peruse
their surroundings; the aroma of affluence is
intoxicating with the unveiling of each valuable
article; and watch with bated breath awaiting
your signature on the sales receipt or the
presentation of dead politicians. But as the
esteemed Oprah Winfrey can attest (https://
www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/
news/article-2387630/amp/Racist-shop-girl-
said-I-afford-24-000-handbag-says-billionaire-
Oprah-Winfrey.html), when you’re deemed
unbefitting, you can go unrecognized as a
patron or commodity. There’s a science to
this anyway (The Secret of Selling the Negro -
https://youtu.be/E8PBrhFN35c), so as long as
we believe their ice is colder, we’ll continue to
refresh our palates with theirs leaving ours to
stockpile in the cooler. We could do a bonfire
similar to that supported by mogul Damon
Dash on Sunday, March 17, 2019; turning our
back on luxury brands and lending our support
to our own. As always, the choice is ours. “We
Are The Change!” I’m gone! (b)
