Gucci Gang

“When you’re watching television,
you’re watching the news, and you’re
being pumped full of fear. There’s
floods; there’s AIDS; there’s murder.
Cut to commercial. Buy the Acura.
Buy Colgate. If you have bad breath,
they’re not going to talk to you. If you
have pimples that girl isn’t going to
fuck you. It’s just a campaign of fear
and consumption. That’s what I think
it’s based on. This wild idea of ‘keep
everyone afraid and they’ll consume.’”

EAR and consumption... Say word!
Amid the recent Gucci, Prada, Adidas,
Burberry and TMax fiascos, and prior
to that H&M, the question has been
asked time and time again, why do we chase
& seek affirmation by What we
wear and own? According to a
study, published February 2012
in the Journal of Experimental
Social Psychology, an interesting
phenomenon was observed: wear a
white coat you believe belongs to a
doctor, and you’ll be more focused.
Wear a white coat you believe
belongs to a painter, and you won’t
see that improvement. “It’s been
well-established—in the scientific
literature and real life—that what we
wear affects how others perceive us.
Women who wear more masculine
clothes to an interview (such as a
dress suit) are more likely to be hired. People
dressed conservatively are perceived as self-
controlled and reliable, while those wearing
more daring clothing are viewed as
more attractive and individualistic.”
According to a study by Hajo Adam
and Adam Galinsky of Northwestern
University, it’s possible that these
individuals not only look more
professional, but subconsciously feel
more professional. In other words,
the clothes may literally make the
man (or woman). If you consider
clothing, purses, book bags, shoes,
housing, automobiles as accessories,
by definition an object or device
that is not essential in itself but
adds to the beauty, convenience,
or effectiveness of something else,
then why do we find it necessary to flaunt what
is only meant to accentuate our personas? Yes
