On February 22 every year, scouts all over the world celebrate Mr Powell’s birthday which also coincides with that of his wife Olave Powell. Olave Powell was also head of the girl scouts in the world. Later on, his sister Agnes Baden Powell started ‘The Girl Guides’, a parallel organization which would cater for girls who wished to be part of the movement. Upon retirement, Baden moved to Kenya and settled in Nyeri until his death at the age of 83. The KFCB boss said the film will be rolled out under KFCB’s Sinema Mashinani programme, an initiative which was launched in 2017 to promote and develop local talent in the country. Powell and his wife both died in 1941 and were buried in Nyeri. The British general was also a prolific writer. His best-seller, Guide to Scouting, was written during the Boer War and was initially meant for military purposes. However, he felt it could be used as a teaching tool for young boys.
