SINGLE LIVING
Holiday planning
This pressure we can put on ourselves
and can feel from the job we do can
also manifest itself in being bad at
taking time off. Thankfully I am a bit
better at this one. For me, Fridays
are sacred, and involve things which
are fun and NOT work (no matter
how much fun the work may be). I
also take all of the holiday allocation
that I am allowed. I sometimes meet
people who tell me they haven’t had
a day off in two months and haven’t
used all their holiday allowance
since 2003. I don’t really understand

that. What do people want, a badge?
Planning days off and holidays can be
hard as a single person though. Often
single people don’t take as much time
off as they should because there’s no
one to go away with. Making all of the
arrangements can be exhausting and
sometimes I wish someone else would
just make a plan and tell me where to
be when.
Private lives
Another thing that can be hard is
when people comment on my private
life. It’s as if singleness has become
public property and people think they
can ask questions and pass comment
on it as they wish. This is tricky
because as a leader I want to be open
and authentic, but some things are
private and the people I’m leading
don’t get to have an opinion on them.
