welcome to the LMSS !
Chloe ( she / her ) - President
Hello Freshers !! First of all , I want to say a huge congratulations to you all for getting your place at University of Liverpool Medical School ! You ’ ve made the best choice choosing to study at Liverpool , so be prepared for some of the best years of your life . We here at the Liverpool Medical Student Society ( LMSS ) are here to help support you throughout the next 5 / 6 years and make sure you ’ re having the best possible time . The LMSS itself is nearly 150 years old and actually predates the University itself . We are also currently the largest and one ofthe most active societies in the whole University ( and the best ) so be sure to get involved throughout the coming year . We hope we can offer something for each and every one of you to get involved with from charity events , annual balls , guest speaker events and many more socials ! My name is Chloe and I will be your President this year . My role is to be the spokesperson of the society and work alongside my two lovely officers , Oscar and Charlie , to ensure you have the best possible start to university life . I know things haven ’ t been easy for you all over the past two years , but with things on the up , we ’ re really excited to finally meet you IN PERSON ?! The LMSS has a lot of very exciting events lined up over the month of September for you all to kick start your university experience . Firstly , we will see you all at the Freshers Welcome Fair and Lecture on Thursday 23 rd September , so save the date ! Here , you ’ ll get the chance to meet the LMSS committee and the opportunity to buy tickets for upcoming events like BUS TOUR and to buy your LMSS membership . This is a great way to socialise , meet the rest of your year group and older years so please do come along . The fun doesn ’ t stop there ! Throughout the year we have an incredible line up of fun events for everyone . This will include our LMSS Ordinary Meetings which in short are evenings where we organise a guest speaker to give a talk on an interesting topic , which is then followed by a big social for all the years to be involved with . We then have other events like the Medics vs Dentists vs Vets Sports Day , and AU night , which is A GREat Laugh . There are many options for people that don ’ t consider themselves ‘ sporty ’ to get involved with too . We then head into Ball season , with our much-anticipated charity dinners and grand round ( all will be revealed ), winter food and craft fair , welcome back party and annual ball ! The LMSS is also currently running a mentor-mentee scheme . This means that after completing a short survey , you will be matched with a 2 nd year with similar interests to your own . They will then guide you throughout the year and be there for you to answer any questions / queries you may have ! This has proved really helpful in the past as it connects you to different year groups and when exams come around , older years often put on really helpful revision sessions . A bit more about the LMSS – it is currently a registered charity . We raise money for Claire House Children ’ s Hospice and Wirral Mind and we ’ re incredibly proud to say that over 2019 / 20 we raised over £ 20,000 .
