PRESIDENT
Hello you lucky lucky people, congratulations on getting into the finest medical school
around. Prepare yourself for the most exciting 5 years of your life! I’m Hamish, your
President of the Liverpool Medical Student Societies (LMSS), and I’m here to make sure
you get the most out of your first year. All the hard work you have put in has finally paid off,
and in return you get to sit back, relax and enjoy the next 5 years of uni (okay, you do have
to do some work).
The LMSS is the oldest medical school society in the UK, founded in 1874, it is 145
years old and still going strong. This society will be at the centre of your social, academic
and religious calendar so make sure your mum packs you a brand spanking new Liverpool
FC calendar so you don’t miss a thing.
When you join the LMSS you will become one
of over a 1000 active members in a caring and
supportive family of students and university
staff. The LMSS is your voice as a medic and
we work closely with the University to make
sure you get the most out of your Liverpool
experience. We will buddy you up with second
years, who have just done what you’re about
to do, so they can guide you through your first
year here. Your mentors are there to answer
any questions and offer academic support.
Our academic rep with also be putting on
revision sessions to support you when exam
panic sets in. But don’t worry academia isn’t
the only thing we as a society are good at…
Hamish Baxter, 6th year
The LMSS offers more social events this coming year than you have fingers (don’t
worry, you’ll learn about them in your anatomy classes). Our hugely talented committee
have put a calendar together so tantalisingly tasty, your salivary glands won’t know what
hit them.
My job as President is to liaise with the Dean and the rest of the University, ensure
everything runs smoothly and answer any questions you have. I would absolutely
recommend getting involved in the LMSS, it’s all here for you to enjoy. I can’t wait to
meet you all in September!!! Don’t be shy...
Hamish x
