Gwala’s first time on air was 26
years ago on campus radio when
he was still a student at Natal
Technikon studying Accounting.
In 1995 he joined commercial ra-
dio station Capital Radio after
being spotted by a lady called
Cassandra Modley. Between then
and now, Gwala went on to work
for SABC Radio and TV as a report-
er, P4 Radio as a presenter and
program’s manager and govern-
ment as a spokesperson. It was in
2003 when he first joined SAFM and
since then he has hosted a couple
of shows.
Speaking about his transition from
one platform to another, he says:
“You have to understand the
target audience of the station and
the format of the station so that
you can be able to deliver.”
Since he has been in the indus-
try, Gwala says he has so much
respect for a lot of his peers who
respect the listeners and men-
tions 702’s Xolani Gwala who is
his cousin and have a good
relationship with him. To keep
sharp and remain clued, he says
he consumes talk radio even
after his show. “I try to get away
from it sometimes by listening to
music but would end up tuning
into different talk radio stations,”
he concludes.
The Talking Point is on SAFM
every weekday from 09h00-
12h00 pm 105.1 FM is the
frequency.
