£ Charles Pagès and Clint bond over their love of fine literature. Clinton Moore Interviewee 24/04/1988 // Australia Yamaha YZ 250 Interviewer Martin Zöllner 06/07/17 Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas; Calle de Alcalá, 237, 28028 Madrid, Spain It seems like forever ago we were here for X-Fighters 2016 – what’s it like being back in Madrid? It’s great to be back like always - I always love Spain, it’s always a great place to come and visit for a holiday. Well, not a holiday but a stressful holiday for a week. For me with Madrid, the idea is to have fun, keep it on two wheels – obviously, I had planned to come and do the Alley-Oop but the weather’s kinda put a bit of a hold on things right now in practise, so we’ll see what happens. Yeah, just play it out really. How much impact is the rain having? It’s forecast for the next two days, but we’re just kinda waiting around. Hopefully, we get a break and we can get back out there and get some practise - and get qualifying out of the way at least. You’ve had plenty of success in X-Fighters but never a win in Madrid, is that something you’re aware of going into it? Yeah definitely, Madrid is the number one plate I want, for sure. 2015 was a great year and had some wins, a few number one spots there. I’ve got my number three, I’ve got my number two and I’m chasing my number one here in Madrid. Hopefully it all works out well Friday night and I can get that number one plate! Any special plans to make that happen? Nothing really special. Like I said I’ve been working on the Alley-Oop and I really want to add that into my run. It’s a 50/50 trick, it can either make or break my run. But you know, if I land it and everything else goes smooth, I think I’m definitely gonna be on the podium - if not a win. X Games comes up pretty soon after X-Fighters this year, is that a consideration? It’s all the same: X Games/X-Fighters, they’re both the biggest events in our sport, in freestyle motocross. So it’s important to do well and be at both of them for the TV time, also for the sponsors and most importantly the fans. Especially here in Madrid. What do you make of the Spanish crowd? Yeah, definitely. Plaza de Torres is part of the history of Red Bull X-Fighters. It’s known for having the biggest crowds, the most fans - screaming fans, I should say. And it’s what makes Plaza de Torres so special - you’ve got 40,000 screaming fans over the top of you in this little tiny bullring. So I find that a very special moment in life, and it’s something I’ll always remember. t
