Yeah , they were something we ’ d seen at Travis ’ house . I can do a Front-Flip without it , my brother can do one without it , so it does feel like it ’ s a cheat . But in making the Front-Flip easier , maybe you can bring combos into it – maybe it could make the sport even bigger . I ’ m still not sure about it though because a Front Flip can happen without it – that ’ s more or less , “ I don ’ t know ”.
Would you prefer no mechanical ramps for competition ?
Probably for contests , yes . I think it ’ s a bit early to bring those types of ramp to a contest when not everyone has access to one to train with .
What about the ramp you brought along last year ? How is that different ?
If you have tricks and if there ’ s the room to put the ramp - if you been working on a trick and if there ’ s room for your trick , yeah , bring it .
The thing is , the cheater ramp here takes the room of a regular ramp so there ’ s one less regular ramp for the guys who aren ’ t using the mechanical one . My ramp was outside of the basic quarter pipe , so it wasn ’ t bothering anyone . It was just , “ Okay , we have the room here . Does it work for you ?” I ’ m like , “ Okay , I ’ ll make it work .”
You ’ ve always been big on progression , were you working on any big new tricks before your injury ? Any planned for when you ’ re back ?
I ’ m always trying to find new stuff . That ’ s my motivation - that ’ s the only thing that ’ s keeping me on tours .
Otherwise , I would ’ ve quit freestyle already . It was really hard before my injuries to find new stuff . I was already thinking of my freestyle run in Madrid .
But since I started coming back , I don ’ t know why - in two days on my bike last week actually – I already found a new trick . It ’ s not ready yet . It ’ s maybe the hardest trick I ’ ve ever attempted on a motorbike , the most dangerous . It will take time , it ’ s a scary one but a cool one !
