We caught up with the Norwegian multiple
X Games gold medal winner in Méribel for
an update on his return from injury and
what the Shredbots are hard at work on
.......................................................
2016’s been really good. I’ve been
coming off of a back injury, which I
was nursing a lot late last year.
This year for me has been about
getting back on my board and
actually starting to jump and
hit features. And going on road
trips – I actually just finished a big
backcountry trip to Austria. So far it’s
looking really good.
What have you got planned for the
rest of the year?
We’re doing a two-year project for
the next Shredbots movie. We’re
going to take a bit more time. We’re
doing some recon, checking out
some new zones and trying to plan a
little bit more this year - so we don’t
have to plan as much next year. I’m
also filming for the new Union team
movie.
Oh sweet, man. How did the
Shredbots concept come about?
It’s been a massive success.
We were just kind of going out and
filming. That’s how it started: going
out, filming stuff that I was missing
from bonus sections for DVDs and
stuff.
The difference was grabbing my own
filmer - one of my friends along to
just shoot everything kind of deal.
I had been overdoing the ‘just me’
thing, I didn’t want to do an overly
personalised or ego-driven piece.
I have way more fun filming with
friends and other riders. So it kind
of just sprung out of wanting to do
that more.
We film stuff that we think is fun and
make it as simple as possible to do
that. We’re not waiting around for a
big crew - we usually just rock one
filmer and it makes setups quick and
easy. If something’s feeling fun and
looking good, we get the camera out
and do it right there. That’s been the
recipe for most of the edits.
Now we’re bringing in more riders,
seeing some new faces and bringing
up some new kids... we’re having a
blast, man.
Sweet. As you’ve seen, Shredtopia
got a killer review in our magazine.
What was your favourite section of
the movie?
I just saw that - that means a lot.
Thank you guys so much. My
favourite section?
Viewer-wise, for me, I think the
Copper Mountain segment is my
favourite one... the thing is, I was
hurt for that one. I was just back from
ankle surgery.
Riding-wise, I’m in love with the
Australia segment - the last Australia
segment. It’s just mayhem! u
