S trike up the band here comes the 2017 Morgan Hill Freedom Fest July 4th Parade !
The morning dawned bright and shiny , and the thrill of anticipation was in the air as participants prepared their entries for the big event . In addition to twenty-two floats , ten bands , and nine equestrian units with over 50 horses , there were several youth groups , community service organizations , and a variety of fun miscellaneous entries !
Friends , neighbors , and folks from out of town , and out of state lined the streets to cheer on the paraders ! It was estimated that over 70,000 attended the parade in 2017 . Wow !!! It was an exciting parade from start to finish ! Morgan Hill sure knows how to WOW the crowds !

Congratulations to the San Jose Metropolitan Band for their win of this year ’ s Most Patriotic entry as well as first place in the Adult Band division . Their rendition of El Capitan by John Phillip Souza had everyone tapping their toes to the music !
Winning the Grand Sweep-Stakes award was CommonWealth Central Credit Union with their depiction of woodland critters on a camping trip to Yosemite ! They also won a second place in the Floats , Business and Professional division . With two branch locations in Morgan Hill , CommonWealth actively supports their local community through student scholarships and local charities . They are proud to once again be the Premier Sponsor of the Morgan Hill Freedom Fest July 4th Parade .
Winning the Theme Award for the third year in a row is The Little Gym ! Congratulations !! They also took home the first place trophy in the Floats , Business and Professional category ! Way to go ! Their float included a family camping trip in one of our many beautiful National Parks . And , as you can see , they were joined by a set of playful bear cubs who were sneaking into their tent ! Really cute !
All awards were chosen by the professional organization , Northern California Parade Judges Association and the California State Horseman ’ s Association
