TYPE II
DIABETES
We have all heard about diabetes, but what is it
really? Is it a disease, a biological trait passed down,?
Is it something that can be prevented?
Are you more fatigued than usual? Is your vision slightly deteriorating? Are you losing weight rapidly? There is a plague spurring from within. It is sweeping nations across the globe and yet some people may remain blind to its presence.
I’m sure you’ve heard of this disease. Perhaps a close friend or a family member has been diagnosed… This condition I am referencing is type II diabetes, the much more common form (90% of all cases).
This type is explained by the body refusing to respond to insulin due to a down-regulation of insulin receptors. This precipitates a higher blood glucose level (hyperglycemia) as the body becomes inefficient at digesting sugars after food consumption.
There are many factors that lead the body to attain this progressive disease. Overweight and obese people have an excess of visceral fat which is linked to abdominal fats. These fats push the body to release chemicals that disrupt the body’s cardiovascular and metabolic systems. A high sugar intake may furthermore disturb the insulin receptors, causing this form of diabetes. Scientists say that drinking just one can of soda per day can raise chances of developing type II diabetes by 22%. People who don’t exercise very much also have a heightened chance of diabetes.
So what does having diabetes do to your body? Well, some symptoms were addressed in the questions in the beginning, but one should also be aware of the following symptoms. Diabetes induces a general thirst and more frequent urination as the body wants more water to appease the glucose levels. People with this condition may also be subject to kidney and back pain. They can also suffer from nerve damage and erectile dysfunction. If any of these symptoms start occurring in your daily routine, contact a doctor immediately.
