This quote lead us to the second philosophical base, existentialism. Rick and Morty give us three possible answer to our existentialist problem. The first one is Jerry, Ricks son-in-l aw, this character has a simple life, he lives happy in ignorance and mediocracy, he does not think about all the possibilities that the universe can offer, quite the opposite he is afraid of it but still he has a “meaningful” and happy life. On the other hand, we have Rick, a super smart scientist that understand the universe and has gone all over it and more than that, he is able to live knowing that life has no purpose at all. Rick lives like an alcoholic old man without any respect for life or moral, that appears to be happy, but he is in great pain inside. As he always says in his catchphrase “Wuba lubba dub dub” which means, “I’m in great pain, please help me”. The last option is Morty, a simple teenager that has been learning all kind of stuff traveling with Rick, but as opposed to Rick he does not try to hide his pain in liquor, in instead, he enjoys life, he loves his family, dreams with his crush Jessica and lives everyday trying to love what he has while he understands that it does not mean anything at all If you did not have enough with the existentialism, there is more. Rick and Morty go back to the movie gender created by H.P Lovecraft called Cosmic Horror. it takes the possibility of an infinite universe and mix it with horror and science-fiction creating a movie gender with a universe full of horrors and threats for humanity as main topic. All that mixed with the existentialism let us to a new cosmic horror without moral and a new kind of scientist personified in Rick Sanchez, a man that face the horrors of an ultimate universe and dead. In conclusion, Rick and Morty can make you laugh with all the jokes and the black humor and at the same time, has a hidden philosophical base that makes you stop laughing with rick's farts and start thinking about life. Enjoy the random universe of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, ask yourself about the meaning of life with the existentialism and cosmic pessimism reference, and laugh with a totally new cartoon gender born from Cosmic Horror. And finally, when you get to understand the universe of Rick and Morty, ask yourself, am I a Morty, a Rick or a Jerry? Or am I different from them? So, stop complaining about everything, life has no meaning, we all are going to die so shut up and watch Rick and Morty.
