Weather Report

Thursday, September 26, 2013: On Thursday we went outside in Mrs. William's third period honors ecology class. When outside, I found that it was moderately chilly but nice nonetheless. The outside temperature was 20 degrees celsius and there was a slight breeze every now and then. It was also sunny, though there were some clouds in the sky.

Interview With Mr. Mayfly

The other day, I was lucky enough to have interviewed a mayfly. Before I interviewed him, I knew next to nothing about mayflies. This particular specimen was kind enough to inform me of some of his characteristics and other personal information.

As it turns out, mayflies are in the first taxonomy, meaning that he cannot live in polluted water without harming himself. During our interview, Mr. Mayfly told me of his home—which is located in a lake. Though his friends live in a nearby stream, he enjoys his home and hopes to live there for a while. When asking of his food habits, Mr. Mayfly replied that he is a collector-gatherer, which means he eats leaf fragments or other materials on the stream bottom, such as algae. Unlike us humans, mayflies go through different stages of life, and my friend, Mr. Mayfly, described these stages to me. Mayflies go through incomplete metamorphosis, therefore they start as an egg, then they become a nymph and move on to be an adul

Sports

This Saturday, all of the BMI at Fox Run excitedly anticipated the last swim meet of the season. A total of five contestants participated in this event; Red the blood midge, Gary the snail, Walter the water mite, Bugs the waterboatman, and last but certainly not least, Mary the mayfly.

With all rooting for him (most pityingly), Gary the snail finished last. Though some said this was to be expected, Gary held his antaneas high and chugged right along. Red the bloodmidge was a few paces ahead of Gary throughout the race while trailing behind Walter the water mite. Mary the mayfly, who had been disqualified earlier that evening, sulkily watched from the sidelines. That only leaves us with only one more competeter, Bugs the waterboatman. Bugs later said after winning the competition that he feared Walter might have beaten him, seeing as they were very close in time. Grateful, Bugs accepted all of the bouquets from his adoring fans while Walter grumpily stared ahead.

The meet was certainly a can't miss.
