The Angels in Duel Hell Written by Taleah Gainey She exits the room of flames, leaving frozen embers in her path. She glances to the right through cold smoke; the black demon river flows with holy water, and to the left, the haunting black shadow illuminates this world’s tomorrow. She struts down to the gatekeeper’s boat; He smiles brightly, and kindly asks her destination. “Earth” she exclaims, returning his smile. As the boat rivets into motion, she turns to look back: Her completed work truly something to marvel at. She watched continually until the frozen love was an icy blur. She reaches the surface only a few minutes after departure and deboards the boat. She pays for her ride and scans her surroundings. Suddenly she sees who she was looking for- and a smile brightens her face. The boy who died, but was given a new heart is to the left. The child forged from demons was cleansed and on the right. And I, her daughter, was in between. My mother looks at me for a brief moment, then spreads her wings and flies to the heavens, but not before looking back at her best creation and leaving a small comment. I smile at the words she spoke to me. “Continue to make this place pure, my child. Make this hell heavenly, as your mother has done to the one before it.” She departs from me then, to watch my work from above. 14
