LEAD STORY
Bethel New Testament Church of God is the #FaceofChangeJA
After a nail-biting 4 weeks of online and SMS voting, Bethel New
Testament Church of God walked away with $350,000 to
continue their community development work in Kingston. The
organisation outranked 20 other finalists to secure victory and well
needed capital to continue building their community. The church
received 328,000 of the overall 645,000 votes to secure the top prize
in the competition’s inaugural staging.
Second place went to Princesses and Ladies Inc who received
$200,000 to expand their mentorship and skills training initiative for
young girls in the August Town area of Kingston. Eastwood Gardens
Police Youth Club took the third place prize of $100,000.
The Face of Change competition was created to celebrate the work of
grassroots organisations involved in community work for a minimum
of 2 years. The campaign received an official endorsement from the
Governor General His Excellency, Sir Patrick Allen.
“Our congregation and the entire community was so supportive
over the 4 weeks of voting. The minute we found out we were
finalists we started rallying their support and they didn’t let us down!
Our youth and even our elderly members were all voting away,”
said Onikeh Clue, a member of the Church.
