HISTORY AND MISSION

Forsyth Mission Statement:
To provide children with a
supportive atmosphere and
opportunities for success in
order that they may develop
self-confidence and a love of
learning.
In 1961, Mary Dunbar,
founder and first Head of
School, opened an
innovative preschool in a
stately house leased from
the Unity Christ Church of
Saint Louis. Using
materials and methods
considered way ahead of
their time, Mary Dunbar
established an
environment for creative
learning. Over the years,
the School has expanded
significantly by adding
grades and houses, while
maintaining the residential
scale and feel the children
love. A one-of-a-
kind campus and
an innovative,
progressive
curriculum have
distinguished
Forsyth since
its inception.
While the
campus has
grown as
property has
become available, the
leadership of Forsyth School
has been very stable and
strong. Since its founding,
Forsyth has had only four
Heads of School.
