Recent Keele achievements
2018/19 has been a fantastic academic year for Keele University, both in terms of
recognition for our commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience
and in creating impact through our research.
Keele Alumni celebrated in Queen’s New Year and Birthday Honours 2019
Stanley Beckensall MBE - Keele alumnus and historian Dr Stanley Beckensall has been
awarded an MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to prehistoric rock
art and history in Britain. Dr Beckensall studied English, History and Education at Keele in 1954
and is thought to be the first male graduate of the University.
Eran Cutliffe OBE - Eran Cutliffe, a specialist prosecutor and Keele University graduate, has
been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to law and order.
Karen Dobson OBE - Keele alumna and local college principal Karen Dobson was awarded
an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours. Karen, who is Principal and Chief Executive of
Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG), was awarded an OBE for her services to
further education.
Priscilla Padley MBE - Keele alumna Priscilla Padley, founder of Nene Valley Trust, was
awarded an MBE for services to children and families in Northamptonshire and Peterborough.
Dr Emma Philpott OBE - Dr Emma Philpott was awarded an OBE for her contribution to cyber
security. Dr Philpott is the Chief Executive Officer of IASME Consortium, an accrediting body
assessing and certifying against the Government’s Cyber Essentials Scheme.
Michael Nicholls BEM - Michael Nicholls was awarded a BEM (British Empire Medal) for his
services to the community. Michael, from Selsey in West Sussex, has been recognised for going
above and beyond in his services to his local area.
And of course…
Neil Baldwin BEM - A Keele University honorary graduate and well-loved campus figure, Neil
Baldwin, also known as Nello, was awarded a British Empire Medal for his services to the
community in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
A new home for Keele Business
School and a Smart Innovation Hub
Keele campus will soon be home to a
new multi-million pound state-of-the-art
facility that houses both Keele Business
School (formerly Keele Management
School) and incubated companies in a
sector-leading Smart Innovation Hub.
