Hunger Awareness Month began at Fordham Prep with a
Hunger Banquet for all freshmen led by committee
co-chairs Nicholas Frank ’18 and Christopher Friend ’18.
The freshman class replicated global statistics regarding
hunger: 10% were waited upon and served a nutritious
and balanced lunch; 30% received a minimal lunch; 60%
of the class was given bread and water. The luncheon
also sensitized the class to the plight of the hungry in NYC
and the work being done at POTS, one of the
organizations that our food drive supports.
The food drive was an unbelievable success. Our students
brought in a record 41,532 food items for our hungry
neighbors who are assisted by POTS, Concourse House,
Mercy Center, OLA Helping Hands and St. Claire's Food
pantries. The food drive is part of The Great Ignatian
Challenge involving six Jesuit high schools coming
together to raise awareness about hunger.
Cardboard City Night: 36 students and 5 faculty members
spent a night outside to get a brief taste of what millions
of people experience each and every night.
Students and faculty were in Washington, DC for the Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice.
