Notes 1935 1955 Michael Campbell was recently invited to speak at Ft. Lauderdale’s main library on behalf of Global Volunteers. He talked about the program and his experiences teaching conversational English in Poland and Italy. 1957 On November 8, Gerry Byrne was awarded the Department of the Navy’s Meritorious Public Service Award by General Robert B. Neller, Commandant of the Marine Corps. The presentation took place at the Intrepid Sea Air & Space Museum during the celebration of the Marine Corps’ 242nd birthday. On November 17, the Fordham Veterans Association presented Gerry with the Outstanding Civilian Achievement Award for a Fordham veteran alumnus. John Cregan has been bestowed with the papal honor of “Chaplain to His Holiness” by Pope Francis and given the title “Monsignor.” After earning a degree in economics in 1961 at Fordham U., John served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps for 22 years before retiring in 1983. He entered Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD in 1983 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1987. He has served as parochial vicar of St. Patrick Church in Fredericksburg (1987-91); parochial vicar of Church of the Nativity in Burke (1991-93); and as pastor of St. Elizabeth Church in Colonial Beach (1993-96), pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church in Alexandria, where he served for 19 years before retiring in June 2015. He currently resides at the Rose of Lima Retirement Villa in Annandale. He continues his pastoral ministry as the associate state chaplain to the Knights of Columbus and as an adjunct spiritual director for Mount St. Mary’s. After 60 years, Greg Rinn ’57, Al Apicelli ’57 and Bob Putlock ’57 had lunch recently in Delray Beach, Florida. 1963 1950 Jenik Radon has reached country 106 when he visited Papua New Guinea. He has 88 to go. Jenik recently gave the keynote on the U.N. Sustainability Development Goals at the first meeting of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). 1981 Fordham Prep students gather around and enjoy the piano donated by the Honorable Paul Victor '50 P '83, Mrs. Teresa Victor and the Albert P. James McLoughlin was acknowledged by U.S. Congressman John Larson (CT) for finding an oversight in the U.S. Flag code which was deficient in permitting the governor of a state to lower the flag to half staff upon the line of duty death of a first responder. The amendment was initiated in 2008 by James, a retired Deputy Fire Chief in Hartford, CT. The bill was signed into law on February 9, 2018. FP App now available through iTunes or Google Play.
