Class Reps are the most important link between the Prep and alumni. They can be an integral part of keeping the Prep informed about what our alumni are accomplishing. They can also encourage attendance at Prep events like Oktoberfest, reunions and the Golf & Tennis Outing. This year, the Alumni Relations office is pleased to announce exciting new changes to the Prep’s Class Representative Program. Class Reps The Prep is moving to a class representative Team model. Each class will be represented by 3-5 class representatives and led by a class team leader. “The thing I learned outside of the classroom was the need to give community service.” Hunt remembered, “The social consciousness from the Prep really nurtured me and stayed with me forever.” In fact, in an act of kindness not lost on his staff, when Coogan’s was in jeopardy of closing recently, Hunt picked up the phone and secured jobs for all of his employees. When asked about it, he laughed it off, saying “We don’t have the best servers in the world. But we do have some of the best PEOPLE in the world.” He continued, “We try to make everyone who comes in here feel special. There was an article about us in The New Yorker and the author mentioned that his mother used to clean offices at the hospital, but she would come in here and get treated like gold.” We hope that current reps will continue to serve their classes, but if any would prefer to take some time away from being a class rep, we certainly understand. Please let Ryan Fink know if you're interested in becoming a class rep or team leader. If there are any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Ryan Fink, Development Associate, at [email protected] or 718-367-7500 x209. The Prep’s influence on Hunt is reflected in his personal life. He married the sister of his classmate, Jack Doyle. Both of his sons, Doyle ‘00 and Thomas ‘03 were graduates of the Prep. His daughter Kate was also swayed by the Jesuits. “We lived in New Jersey and used to come over the bridge to go to the Thanksgiving game against Xavier. We would drop the boys off at school and I would go to work. She saw all this.” Despite being unable to attend the Prep, when it came time to select a college, she chose Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia. Hunt’s kindness was reciprocated recently when Coogan’s was set to close. New York Presbyterian had raised the rent in the new lease, and it was too much to keep Coogan’s afloat. However, the community rallied. Lin Manuel Miranda, who is a lifelong friend of the bar (Hunt mentioned that he used to have birthday parties there) rallied to save the place. Eventually, local politician, Adriano Espillat, met with the hospital to arrange a compromise in the new lease. Coogan’s was saved. No act of kindness goes unnoticed.
