Happy Admissions Season! Fall is the high school recruiting season, and the Admissions Office has been working diligently to prepare. In May, the Prep hosted our first Spring Open House, to give prospective families another opportunity to visit the Rose Hill campus, tour our facilities and speak directly to current students, parents, faculty and staff. In July, we hosted over 230 rising 8th graders at our Higher Achievement Program (HAP). These boys spent five weeks in the company of Prep faculty, staff, students and coaches in order to sharpen their academic skills, form new friendships, and participate in unique activities and sports. HAP is one of the Prep’s most powerful recruiting tools. Boys who attend HAP often become young men who attend Fordham Prep. In fact, 40% of our current student body attended HAP. We are hopeful that all our HAPsters from this past summer submit an application to the Class of 2023. This fall, Associate Director of Admissions Mr. Corey Punter ’07 and I are hitting the road to visit schools in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Westchester and Fairfield County. We are also planning a number of events to help engage prospective families, our network of feeder schools and partner programs. Our annual Fall Open House will take place on Sunday, October 28. Each year, on average, over 1,500 people, including 500 prospective students, tour Shea Hall, the Leonard Theatre and the Higgins Gymnasium and speak directly to members of the Prep community. Bradley Serton ’95 Director of Admissions Director of the Higher Achievement Program (HAP) college preparatory work required of all Fordham Prep students. We also ensure that boys who are admitted to the Prep are open to the unique experience we offer. Admitted students must be willing to try new things and be prepared to be challenged, both inside and outside the classroom. A review of report cards, including teacher comments, and standardized tests, as well as conversations with principals, program directors and parents help to make those decisions a little easier. In November, we will invite grammar school principals, program directors, teachers and high school placement officers to enjoy a meal with us in thanksgiving for all they do to ensure new generations of boys find their way to Rose Hill. Prospective families, as well as school officials, often tell me that their experience of our community, live and in person, is no match for a billboard, email blast or web video. We try to ensure that those interested in Fordham Prep have an opportunity to visit. The next generation of Rams is out there. I speak for both myself and Mr. Punter when I say how grateful we are to play a small part in helping them join the Prep community. We are also very grateful to all alumni and friends of Fordham Prep who so generously donate their resources and their time to ensure that a Fordham Prep education remains attainable for all boys who are qualified to attend. Finally, we are thankful for all the efforts of all our students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. Admissions is truly a community undertaking. The purpose of our efforts is to admit and register the Fordham Prep Class of 2023. As always, our job is to ensure that applicants are prepared to do the rigorous Hail, Class of 2023, hail!
