exposed to arts and athletics, and athletics played an important part in Christopher's life.” Young men are influenced by what schools have to offer besides academics.” After graduating from Fordham Prep in 1996, Christopher went to Villanova University, then to KBW as an Assistant Equity Trader. At that time, the KBW offices were in the south tower of the World Trade Center. Christopher was in the office when the south tower was struck by a plane during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. He was one of 67 KBW employees who perished that day. “It means an awful, awful lot,” Duffy stated about naming the locker room for Chris. “He had a wonderful experience at the Prep with football and lacrosse. Soon after Christopher’s death, his parents honored him in creating the Christopher M. Duffy ’96 Scholarship Fund to assist young men from Yonkers seeking a Fordham Prep education. “We prayed that the scholarship would create good out of the bad. Hopefully, it can make a difference for young men who financially couldn’t attend the Prep,” says Langan. Still wanting to honor their son, the family’s philanthropy extended into athletics when Randell reached out to Duffy and Langan about joining the locker room renovation. Randell asked Duffy out to lunch and explained the process. The group coordinating the fundraising had raised a significant amount, but they needed a leadership gift to finish the project. “I was interested, but I wanted to talk to Chris’ siblings first. They were very enthusiastic and felt it would be a wonderful tribute to Christopher.” Duffy approached Randell about a naming opportunity for his son in correspondence with the gift. They met with school leadership who were supportive of the idea of fostering Chris’ legacy. Langan said, “Having a locker room that echoes the college-level playing fields the teams use will help the Prep maintain a competitive edge across all sports. Vol. 2 2018-19 | 13
