41st Higher Achievement Program (HAP)
This summer, the Prep hosted its 41st Higher Achievement
Program (HAP) for rising 8th graders. For five weeks, participants
spent the mornings in Writing, Math and English Language Arts
classes. In the afternoons, each student had the opportunity to
participate in athletic activities, including kickball, soccer, track
and field, and dodge ball as well as indoor games, including
knock hockey, checkers and chess. The rising 8th graders also
had the opportunity to choose special activities that included
studio art, graphic design, science, speech and debate, Greek &
Latin, and modern languages. During the last two weeks of the
program, the boys participated in a service project to benefit The
Blythedale School in Valhalla, New York. We are proud to report
that our participants raised over $13,000 for the 425 backpacks
filled with personal supplies for Blythedale’s children. Some of
the proceeds were also used for a direct donation to the school.
As it has since its inception, HAP gives boys the tools to excel
both inside and outside the classroom in their grammar schools
and home communities. It also gives many prospective students
a first glimpse of the Prep and closely mirrors the Fordham Prep
student experience. HAP participants are challenged inside the
classroom and on the sports field, offered the opportunity to
take part in unique co-curricular activities, and spend time in the
service of others.
Congratulations to the entire HAP administration, faculty and
student staff for a fantastic summer!
