Q&A with Timmy Facciola ‘16 Tell me about your Fordham Prep experience. Who were some teachers/staff members who made an impression on you? I had a fantastic time at Fordham Prep. I was in student government, campus ministry, on the football team and in the Monty Python Club. The Prep had a significant role in my academic and spiritual development. Quite often this past year, I noticed myself relying on the writing foundations I developed in English classes with Dr. Lee, Mr. P. Lauber and Fr. O’Konsky. Doc Carney taught me the importance of discipleship and Mr. Ritter made complicated, deep theological questions part of daily life. Have you always been interested in fishing and marine life? My dad taught me to fish in the bays of eastern Long Island. Around 7th grade I grew interested in surf casting for Striped Bass off the rocky shores of Montauk. It's a unique type of fishing and could qualify as an action sport. I would fish from the rocks as the only kid among the salty local fisherman and I grew to have an appreciation for the Montauk fishing culture. So when I discovered Dock to Dish, I had to get involved. Talk a little bit about meeting Sean Barrett at the Senior-Alumni Breakfast your senior year. I was at my table at the Alumni breakfast looking through the program, reading the different company names and saw Dock to Dish. Earlier that morning I noticed a guy with no tie and a Martha’s Vineyard fishing hat and I had a hunch he was with Dock to Dish. After the breakfast ended, I went up to him and introduced myself. What has been your experience thus far with Dock to Dish? Working for Dock to Dish has brought me from the docks of Montauk, to filming a feature on the Travel channel, to cracking crabs shells in a restaurant kitchen for five hours. One of the reasons I was attracted to the company and one of the reasons I want to stick around is because it's more than just a cool job in Montauk, it's a mission I wholeheartedly believe in and it aligns with the Church’s mission to preserve God’s creation. What is your advice to current Fordham Prep students and your thoughts on the Fordham Prep alumni network? Use the Alumni Breakfast as more than just a chance to miss first and second period. I never would have thought that I would make this connection. Fordham Prep produces Grads at Grad like Sean whose work sets the world aflame and I'm sure there are plenty of alumni connections to be made.
