Student Life
Tell us a little bit about your background - I know you were the
Head of School at St. Anthony in Jersey City before joining the
Prep, but tell us a little bit about your family and your journey
into education.
I am from a family of educators in Louisiana, and I began my
journey in education as a high school teacher. I taught English
Literature classes in San Antonio, TX. A few years later, I earned my
principalship certification and became a school administrator at 27.
I have been a school leader for the past nine years and find myself
still enjoying the work because I know that education is my vocation.
What drew you to Fordham Prep?
I was drawn to interview for the position because of the strong
academic programming and rich traditions of the school.
Are you familiar with the Jesuits?
Yes, I am, but I am learning so much more.

both national and international non-profit organizations and
institutions of higher education. Corey most recently served as
a Development Assistant at A Better Chance, an organization
whose mission is to increase educational opportunities for
young boys and girls of color.
What plans do you have for this year and beyond?
I want to observe to see how procedures and process function first
and if there is a need to update or modify anything. Then I shall
meet and discuss new ideas with stakeholders.
Mr. Omar Brent Ward ’92 will teach Algebra 1 and Geometry
in our Mathematics Department. Brent holds a BS in Sports
Medicine and Physical Education from Manhattan College. He
brings 17 years of teaching experience, all during his long career
at his alma mater, St. Helena School in the Bronx. Brent has
served as the head coach of the Prep’s junior varsity basketball
team since 2013.
Final thoughts about the position and joining the Fordham
Prep community?
I have enjoyed the warm welcome from the students, parents,
teachers and even board members, and I look forward to making
positive contributions to this community of life-long learning and
the pursuit of wanting to be a better human being.
