Meet the 2023 Arredondo STEM Scholarship Winners
F ordham Prep is proud to announce the 2023 recipients of the Angeles T . Arredondo ( ATA ) Foundation STEM Scholarship : Gianluca Voli ’ 23 , Cameron Drew ’ 23 , and Nicolas “ Nico ” Nuño ’ 23 .
Through the generosity of the ATA Foundation , this marks the second year that the Prep has awarded three scholarships to students from a pool of diverse candidates who are interested in pursuing a college degree in STEM .
“ We are excited about the Angeles T . Arredondo Foundation STEM Scholarship winners being identified much earlier this year as it ’ s a victory marker for college decisions ,” said Assistant Principal for Academics Chad Broussard . “ The scholarships , ranging from $ 10,000 – $ 50,000 , may broaden the scope of attending a college or university for our students and it is our hope that each winner pursue a STEM career or contribute to the field ,” he added .
The ATA Foundation ’ s commitment to Fordham Prep , the iSTEAM program and the students totals a staggering $ 425,000 over the duration of the grant . A new group of qualified students is chosen every year .
The scholarship , which is based on academic performance , requires candidates to take at least two advanced STEM courses , such as AP Biology , Geometry Honors and AP Physics . The students with the highest GPAs at junior year are considered for the scholarship .
Students can use their scholarship award during their first year of college or distribute it throughout their matriculation . The three seniors awarded will receive their award certificates later in the academic year .

1ST PRIZE WINNER Gianluca Voli ’ 23 ($ 50k Scholarship )
Voli thoroughly enjoys getting hands on with iSTEAM at Fordham Prep during projectbased labs where he is able to use the microscopes to investigate various plant cells on the molecular level , compare DNA sequences to understand evolutionary relationships with the computer program BLAST and create flying pigs using the principles of uniform circular motion .
Voli is interested in majoring in Biochemistry in college .
He is authentic in everything he does . He is honest , genuine , trustworthy and a very hard worker . He is a wonderful role model for others .”
“ All the iSTEAM projects I have done at Fordham Prep have made me more intellectually curious and trained me on how to solve real-world problems using experimentation and the scientific method ,” Voli said . “ iSTEAM has also given me a passion for scientific research , especially in the biochemical field ,” he continued .
Voli ’ 23 is a member of Varsity Cross Country and Track & Field , Vice President of the Italian Club , and a member of the 3D Printing Club ( FP3D ). He also
– Jennifer Muller , Science Teacher tutors students in Pre-calculus and other subjects in the Academic Support Center . He was a Freshman Retreat Leader for the Ministry Leadership Team during the 2021 – 22 school year . In the summer of 2022 , he traveled to Tennessee for the Appalachia Habitat for Humanity service trip .
“ If I had to choose one word to describe Gianluca it would be ‘ authentic ,’” said Jennifer Muller from the Prep ’ s Science Department . “ He is authentic in everything he does . He is honest , genuine , trustworthy and a very hard worker . He is a wonderful role model for others . Gianluca ’ s authenticity is probably one of the main reasons he stood out in my class . He is an extremely bright young man that is going to do wonderful things in the world ,” she continued .
