steward from Lucas Burnley, was the guest speaker at a number of meetings held by the Accrington Constituency Labour Party to support the Plan and to explain how the revenues from North Sea Oil could finance its establishment. However, the Thatcher victory in 1979 saw the Plan abandoned. GREEN ENERGY Today we need such a plan more than ever before in our history. Having sold off all our Utilities, wasted the revenues of North Sea Oil, and lost much of our Engineering expertise, we need a big Green Energy project to give the people, particularly in the hard-hit North of England, hope for the future. In the 1960s discussions took place on TV and radio about what life would be like in 1984 and the year 2000. It was thought there would be a 20-hour working week with 4 months’ holiday entitlement and wages sufficient to allow people a decent standard of living. Instead, things have only got worse. The drop in the standard of living of people in North East Lancashire can be observed daily by simply walking round our town centres. Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party must enact ideas similar to the Lucas Plan immediately on obtaining office in order to stop the rot (and hopefully help to stop wars such as in Yemen today).
