Protect Rwanda Gorillas
Kinshasa, June 19 (PL) A score of baby gorillas were baptized in a traditional ceremony in Kinigi, Rwanda, next to Volcanoes National Park, to protect these endangered animals, environmental organizations reported today.
The ceremony, which is held in the African country since 2005, attended by residents and political representatives, including the Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza, pointed media.
Makuza said on the occasion that the joint efforts of the government in Kigali and allowed communities to preserve the mountain gorillas and their habitat, one of the main tourist attractions Rwandans.
In Virunga increased populations of these animals from 250 in 1981 to over 480 today, he said.
In the Virunga mountain range on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, lives half of the nearly 700 gorillas still exist in the world.
