Town
Newark Town FC is a fantastic example of the important role a
club can play in their local area and is registered as a Community
Benefit Society allowing every member to have a say in how it is
run. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their First
Team Secretary Richard Lane to find out more about the club.
Involvement

Grantham Town for almost twenty years,
reporting on away matches for the local
paper and t he match programme and

a sporting event as part of his GCSE
English course and chose a Newark game.

to matches, I volunteered as gateman. As
time progressed I also took on the writing
and production of the match programme
which I’ve now done for six years. I
am now in my third year as first team
secretary, while my son took a degree in
sports journalism and now works for the
local newspaper as their sports reporter!”

referees and league officials, which is one
of the great strengths and pleasures of the
game at our level.
Obviously success on the pitch is
always welcome, but even when things
