outh Liverpool FC has been achieving plenty of success in recent years and is enjoying another strong season this time around . Football Focus Magazine caught up with Secretary Jim Stanway to gain an insight into their success .
In the last five years we moved from the Liverpool League to the West Cheshire League and moved through the Divisions , achieving plenty of success . We ’ ve won the First Division two years in a row .
“ This season we didn ’ t make the start that we would have liked but we ’ re on a role at the moment and have been moving up the table . Things are looking well ; we have a reserve team as well who are doing very well . Our youth team is excellent and are favourites to win the league at the moment . We also run youth sides and a ladies team .
“ There is a new Sports hub being built next to where we play and at the moment we ’ re in negotiations to use the facility . If we do , that would give us the potential to move up the leagues depending whether we were able to achieve the success on the pitch as well .
“ It ’ s a big step up to the next level because of the extra facilities that you need . A lot of clubs will be looking to pay players at that level because of the travelling required but we ’ ve always had the ambition to move up . We ’ ve just got to make sure that we ’ ve got everything in place to enable us to do so .
“ We ’ ve been very , very successful over the last few years and won the treble last year which was brilliant for us . We only entered those three competitions so you can ’ t really do any better than that on the pitch .
“ There are a lot of us behind the scenes that have been with the club for forty years or more and we know how important it is
to work within our means . We are ambitious for success but only to the level we can achieve whilst remaining sustainable .
“ Five years from now it ’ s of paramount importance that the club is financially stable . I ’ d like to think that we could make the step up back into the semi-professional game but that would need to be planned very carefully .
“ We have some of the infrastructure in place and if we can get the ground then we ’ ve certainly got a team that would be able to compete at that level . We ’ ll make those decisions together as a club and it certainly won ’ t be done in haste . We see ourselves as custodians of the club and the main priority will always be to make sure that it is here and in good health for the next generation .”
