York City FOOTBALL CLUB

ork City FC was first established in 1922 and started out playing in the Midland
League before being elected to Division Three North of the Football League in 1929 . They remained there until they became original members of the Fourth Division in 1958 .
The club won their first major honour in the 1983 / 84 season when they ran away with the Fourth Division title , racking up 101 points in the process . Their first ever visit to Wembley came in 1992 / 93 when they defeated Crewe Alexandra in a penalty shootout to win promotion .
So far this season it would be fair to say that they have not enjoyed the campaign that they would have liked , having put together a record of five wins , thirteen draws and fourteen defeats from their thirty two matches . This has left them near the bottom of the table with twenty eight points on the board .
There is still plenty of the campaign left to play however and they will now be looking to put together a good run of results in order to pull away from the relegation places . As long as they are able to keep their key players fit they should be in with a good chance of doing just that .
There have been many changes to the playing squad over the course of the season and Manager Jason McGill recently told Minstermen PlayerHD , “ It ’ s a new squad , a new team , a new feeling , a new season , a new outlook , a new belief , a new positivity .”
“ It ’ s been hard work to get to where we are and I couldn ’ t have done it without the Chairman . He has been unbelievable since I ’ ve come back in by allowing me to do what I ’ ve done .
“ It ’ s not been easy for him to do that mentally , but more so financially , but he has allowed it to happen so he deserves a big pat on the back for that . Together we are recreating the feeling around this Football Club that we are proud of it .”
Although York City ’ s first team would like to be higher in the table , this should not take away from the good work being carried out at the club . They are still in with a good chance of avoiding relegation and this would provide them with the perfect platform from which to build for the 2017 / 18 campaign . Everyone at Football Focus Magazine wishes them the best of luck .
