akenham Town Football Club is a club on the up in every sense , but 12 months ago that wasn ’ t quite the case and the future for “ The Ghosts ” didn ’ t look as rosy as it does today .
Ill-health had forced Club Chairman Bill Clayton to reluctantly take a step back from things ( although he has remained as Club President ). With no-one effectively in ultimate charge the direction of the club gradually became unclear . It was at this point that one of the clubs longest serving volunteers called for an Extraordinary General Meeting – in the hope that it would be the kick that was needed to get things on track . In short , it worked .
With the EGM date looming , the surprise news arrived that it had indeed been cancelled at the last minute . Shortly followed by the announcement that a new Chairman , Vice Chairman & Club Ambassador had been elected .
Describing himself as a figurehead to push forward the opinions and decisions of the committee , Andrew Jarvis became the new chairman . Having previously managed in the youth section within the Clipbush set-up , as well as a stint in charge of the Ladies side , Andrew was invited to take up the reins – ultimately an opportunity he decided to accept , but only after speaking in depth to a good friend he had previously enlisted the help of while coaching the Under 16 ’ s – that man , Nigel Worthington .
Bringing with him a wealth of experience that clubs the size of Fakenham Town can normally only dream about , Nigel agreed to come on board as Club Ambassador .
And while the title Club Ambassador might suggest more of a background role in running & restructuring the club , for “ Worthy ” it ’ s certainly not the case . His willingness to personally take coaching sessions for the up & coming coaches , or for the players at the club has been huge . Couple that with getting his hands dirty painting walls and ceilings , washing up and emptying bins and the club has
