However due to the progression and advancement of science it appears that the first food pyramid does not accurately display what a balanced healthy diet should be composed of, therefore scientists form the University of Michigan’s Integrative Medicine Department have developed a modified version of the food pyramid (see below). This model shows that in order to have a healthy balanced diet one must consume a lot of water, followed by vegetables and fruits, then grains, legumes, seasonings, healthy fats, dairy products, eggs, seafood, lean meat and fatty food. The model also indicates whether food within each group should be consumed daily, weekly or every now and then.

It is important that as a society we are constantly updated with the developments of science, what we may have learnt in school whether that was 2 or 20 years ago may have changed and therefore we must insure that we are continuously informed of the scientific development especially that concerned with our health and life style.
