The perfect Punjabi thali would be incomplete without shahi paneer, or a similar paneer preparation with lots of cream, aloo mutter, a kofta preparation, and dal makhani (lentils cooked with butter and cream). Dairy products are an important aspect of Punjabi cuisine. Indeed, Punjabis are well known for consuming multiple glasses of “lassi” after every meal.
