RECIPE A KiwiStrawberry Mix! We are about to undergo a seasonal change, and with it a change in climate. That’s why doctors recommend that we eat foods rich in vitamin C, since they help our immune system to combat these abrupt changes. Oranges and lemons, of course, are rich in this vitamin, but nevertheless, so are kiwis and strawberries. Did you know? * The kiwi is not only one of the fruits with the highest concentrations of vitamin C, it also contains lutein, a phytochemical compound that reduces the risk of cancer; it also prevents cardiovascular diseases and muscular degeneration. It contains more potassium than a banana and is rich in vitamin E, folic acid and magnesium. Furthermore, it helps in regulating arterial pressure. * The strawberry, apart from containing ascorbic acid, also contains lecithin and pectin, making it a good ally for the reduction of cholesterol in the blood. Let’s Prepare Kiwi and Strawberry Skewers!! Here is a practical way to enjoy both fruits. What do you need? *A few wooden skewers * Kiwis and strawberries Now, let’s start... Don’t forget to disinfect the strawberries; once they are ready, cut them into pieces and in the desired shape. Cubes are a good choice, but they can be anything. Repeat the process with the peeled kiwis. Next, skewer the fruits alternatively. (And if you want, you can also add other fruit and chocolate chips). And... we’re finished! This is how easy it is to make a delicious and healthy dessert for yourself or to surprise your loved ones. www.mexico.is Special Edition 2015  Food Mexico and Me  9
