FEATURED RESTAURANT
THAITHYME
The former Olivie Café was pure Italian on the
5th floor of Terminal 21. It has now transitioned to be Thai Thyme serving Thai, Italian
and a fusion of the two in a relaxed contemporary presentations. To gain an understanding of the two we met with Dominique Bernhadt, President of The Commercial Company
of Siam who through their Euro Foods division
import all of the western food they serve here.
“Our customer’s dinning preferences are always evolving,”he says, “when we opened Olivie Deli our perception was that our younger
customers where looking for an authentic
Italian dining experience, which they still are.
But that is just a part of the picture. There are
times when they are also looking for authentic
Thai flavours, as well as fusion of the two,
hence our new concept for Thai Thyme.”
We went on to try four of the dishes that demonstrate the new concept. We started with
Pasta Nero Sauce with Seafood, the squid ink
adds a sea tang to compliment the sea food
as well as adding a dark black glow to the
spaghetti. Deliciously tasty but the sauce does
stain the lips and we would recommend wiping them thoroughly before kissing.
Then an Italian classic Pizza Parma Ham and
Rocket sala d. Both the ham and the salad are
generously laid on top of crisp base after it has
been cooked.
We then moved on to try two of the Italian Thai fusion dishes. The first was a grilled
Salmon fillet cooked in a dry curry sauce with
steamed jasmine Thai rice.
As the importers of Gallo Arborio Risotto Rice
every so often they host a risotto competition
in Thailand to encourage diverse culinary creative. Our four dish Risotto Green Curry which
while not a winner in the competition found
its way onto the menu as perfect of how risotto can so easily have a Thai taste. All it takes is
an innovative chef with an open mind.
Whether you preference is for Italian, Thai or
a fusion of the two Thai Thyme on 5th floor of
Terminal 21 is the perfect choice.
