NTFB's mission is especially important to Patti because she was food insecure herself growing up. As a teenager she experienced what it was like to not have access to a variety of nutritious meals each day.

"I didn't have it quite as bad as a lot of people, but my family definitely felt it," said Patti. "Dinner often consisted of macaroni and cheese on day one, macaroni and cheese with maybe a little tuna on day two, and maybe some tomato sauce added on day three."

Patti says that one of her favorite things about the volunteer experience at NTFB is working with school-age children. She sees herself as a mentor to the students by educating them on the issue of hunger in our community.

"The volunteer experience at NTFB allows you to work alongside interesting people," said Patti. "And you get a great workout too!"
