Piranha
Habitat and Diet:
Piranhas are native to South American rivers. Although they
are omnivorous, they are known for their appetite for meat.
They are round-bodied, with powerful jaws and very sharp
teeth.
Relationship to humans:
Piranha teeth are often used to make tools and weapons by the
native population. Piranhas are also popular as food, although
if an individual piranha is caught on a hook and line, it may be
attacked by others.
Fun/Unusual fact:
There are many myths about how a school of hungry piranhas
can skeletonize cattle (or humans!) in a matter of seconds!
While these are probably exaggerations, piranhas are still
dangerous predators.
