MARKET ANALYSIS
Reasons behind why I didn’t choose other countries was from when I was looking into China. China is known for being extremely cheap which is a huge factor to consider when buying lots of stock. However, one of the reasons I didn’t choose China was that the quality is poor and this is not what I was going for, I was focusing on good quality in my garments and they would be worn again and again and inconstant contact with water hence why I need them to be durable. Another reason I didn’t use China was that there would be a massive language barrier and difficulty exchanging concerns, this means that there will be a lot of misunderstanding unlike Turkey, where a lot of people speak English and it would be easier to communicate. Shipping was another important factor alarmed a problem as the shipping time is about a minimum of five weeks and a maximum being eight, whereas Turkey has relatively fast transportation times. Turkey’s lead times are significantly shorter than those for its competitors from other countries. Based on Hawes and Curtis a UK retailer, a known source has said transportation takes on average of a week to come by Land freight (Lorry) if it does not get stopped in customs. This is what I plan to do with Sandi Swimwear also use land freight.
I knew I wanted to assure Sandi Swimwear follows strict ethical values, by having an ethical collection I stated it was very important, as I wanted to have make sure gain the best reputation possible and to avoid any negativity around the new business. Everyone needs to be treated fairly especially the people that work in the factories deserve to be treated with respect, being paid a fair wage for their work. If this wasn’t to happen this is when it could reflect on the future of my brand. I want to keep up a good reputation with my brand. I made sure no child labour was being taken part as this is illegal and cruel- whatever the child’s circumstance. I believe children should not be put into situations that might put their health or safety at risk. They should have rights for education and to be a child, which is very essential. Child labour it is a huge issue in the fashion industry and I feel as though retailers need to regularly make sure this is not happening.
Safe working and being safe at work is another large part of my ethical values. When I look at what happened to the factory Rana Plaza incident in India 2013, I strongly believe that clean, safe work spaces produce better results in the long run. To prevent any injuries don’t occur such as, headaches, vomiting and lack of disorientation; this all could be an over exposure to many different aspects such as pesticides, lead based dyes and also poisoning from the chemicals. I will be making sure there are regular procedures put into place to stop this happening, such as frequent breaks and constant checks to assure the factory is safe and in workable environment. The environment is a substantial issue throughout the fashion industry; this is why it is so crucial for my brand to have an environmentally friendly business, as I feel as though we should protect the world, it is our home and for our children’s, children’s futures. To guarantee this I will be designing clothing items are 100% recycled. I will be investing in developing new fibers that will lower the environmental impact of making textiles.
