BIG SKY RESORT, MONTANA
Days at Big Sky offer a variety of terrain, from gentle warm-up groomers to a“ Fresh Tracks” Lone Peak Tram ride that unveils an untouched Liberty Bowl descent, which seasoned skiers often consider the best ski run of their life.
The new tram, which debuted in 2023-24, has added Kircliff, an all-glass viewing platform that, being positioned 11,166 feet above sea level, promises to take your breath away. The 10-person Explorer Gondola follows last year’ s Madison 8 chair, the final upgrade of high-speed convenience where slower chairs once operated.
Big Sky’ s reputation as a“ go big or go home” mountain is well-earned, considering The Big Couloir often ranks among the most challenging runs in North America, one of many rare inbound triple blacks found here. Less known is how kid-friendly it is, with every chairlift leading to kid-oriented areas like Banana Land, Grizzly Drops, and Freemont’ s Forest, each offering specific runs to match.
The culinary scene is as diverse as the mountain’ s terrain, starting with Alpenglow at the Montage. Who would have thought Alpine cuisine could rival Japan’ s ramen lunches? Alpenglow’ s udon noodles are divine. Chicago-based culinary star Grant Achatz showcases his talent during a four-month residency as part of the Alinea Group’ s 20th Anniversary World Tour. One & Only Moonlight Basin has opened, offering upscale dining and lodging, including a private gondola.
